This weekend I finished forging a 5 1/2 inch long sterling silver baby spoon, which is the third spoon that I've fabricated. The first one was a shorter toddler spoon that I made for my beautiful grandson. Below is a picture of the spoon that I most recently completed. Being able to change the shape of metal into something so special is most enjoyable.

It would be nice if all of the bad weather would leave the southern part of the United States. It seems that every week we are having tornado warnings. Yesterday was a beautiful day and I ventured into Memphis for a gem show. Overall, I didn't find that much but did get a polished meteorite, which is really beautiful. I was on the lookout for unusual things and came across some marbles from the Civil War era. I like a challenge and hopefully, I can design a really cool piece of jewelry using them.

In A Metal Mood Silversmith Class; John C. Campbell Folk School, Brasstown, North Carolina; April 2011 Left to Right. Susan Jones, Janis Perry, Julie Matthews, Jessica Maffett (back), Carolyn Williamson (front), Joyce Andrews (front), Kay Patterson (back), Donna Thomas, Robinn Williams (front), Ann Boian (back) This past weekend I returned from teaching a beginner silversmith course, In A Metal Mood, at John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina. Eight fantastic students were in the class along with my terrific assistant, Kay Patterson, and myself, which made ten in all. We had a wonderful class, made lasting friendships and everyone learned so much. The students made lots of beautiful jewelry, which was displayed at the end of the week for others to see!!! Many lovely compliments were given. It was truly an awesome group of people. I loved getting to know them and every minute of teaching. It was definitely a week I'll always cherish and remember.

Happy Valentine's Day! The above pictures are of my latest creation. The pictures show the front and the back of the chain/pendant/clasp. The main cab is dinosaur bone and the clasp has a garnet cab. The clasp was tricky to make but fun! Everything is made from sterling silver, 18 K. gold bi-metal, 22 K. gold, has patina, and is textured.

This is a copy of the short article that came out in the March 2011 Art Jewelry Magazine. Showing a piece of my jewelry, a sterling silver locket, the article features the beginner silversmith course that I'll be teaching the first part of April 2011 at John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina. It should be a fun time. I don't know if the class is full but if you are interested, please check with the school to see if the class is booked.

Greetings! I'm excited to be introducing a new line of earrings to my work. It will be called the Celebration Line. The colors are exciting and the earrings are very light weight. I've added 22 K gold to the color, which gives a great contrast. This coming April 2010 I'm looking forward to teaching a beginning silversmithing course at John C. Campbell Folk School. An advertisement for the course will be coming out in Jewelry Arts Magazine, I think in their March issue. To those that celebrate Christmas, I'm wishing you all a blessed Christmas and to everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

It has been awhile since I posted any news. I've recently returned from visiting family in Oahu, Hawaii. While there, I met with a pearl dealer and purchased some beautiful pearls that I am eager to use in my jewelry. As soon as I get something fabricated, I'll post it. Being able to use my creative talents through my work is immensely satisfying. During the past few months, I've signed a contract to teach for a week in April 2011 at John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina. It is a wonderful place to learn in a non-pressured environment and I encourage those interested in seeing what they offer in the way of classes to visit their website. I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer. Take care! Susan
